I have been working in electrical and associated engineering disciplines for fifty years. At present, I design power management and RF transceiver/receiver subsystems for software-defined radio (SDR) in the HF range. LTSpice and the wide range of other free tools, open-source software and operating systems have revolutionized the field by opening it to developers of all skill levels. These tools also comprise a solid foundation for teaching electrical engineering, augmented by hands-on prototyping and - only when absolutely necessary - pertinent texts.
